Laurie Lee Brom
Laurie Lee Brom takes the viewer on a Southern Gothic journey as she draws from a variety of influences including her childhood in the historical town of Charleston, South Carolina and its rich heritage of local ghost stories, as well the folk tales of the swampy Low Country. Growing up she continued to be interested in the wildlife she sought out as a child, and took on new influences with the discovery of campy occult kitsch ranging from Ouija boards to pop culture offering like goth soap opera "Dark Shadows". Studying art at the College of Charleston and Parson School of Design, she worked in a variety of artistic fields until taking a sabbatical to raise kids with her husband, illustrator and author Brom. Her dark, feminine and magically inclined paintings take the viewer on a journey that one viewer called "What Waterhouse's work would have looked like if he grew up in the Addams' family mansion."
