Kari-Lise Alexander has become widely known for her sensuous and mysterious paintings exploring the dark feminine. Often enigmatic in tone, her paintings often feature lush jewel tone botanicals and soft, dreamy portraits that evoke the strength behind vulnerability. her recent show, "Night Garden", is painted predominantly in hues of blue and violet with her trademark "Tilt Shift" focus on various aspects of her subjects, in which part of the images are blurred and other parts are crisp and in tight focus.
“Reflecting on the artists experience and embracing my love affair with gardening, I created a body of work that encompasses both those relationships. I explore the darker side of what making art entails, often using body parts bursting with flora - signifying growth, hardship, and learned experiences. The floral motifs are infused with intense and highly saturated colors to give a sense of the familiarity, while remaining a bit off kilter and surreal. I invite the viewer to take the garden path, hoping what they experience is the dark beauty of being an artist.” - Kari-Lise Alexander
