Alexis Trice - “Undercurrent”

March 2nd - 30th 2024

Opening night reception March 2nd 6-8pm Artist In Attendance

Artist Alexis Trice

We are thrilled to present our first solo show with NY based artist Alexis Trice. Alexis' paintings touch on themes of grief and redemption using a haunting and beautiful symbolism revolving around animals as signifiers of our internal natures.
This ambitious and gorgeous new show features 12 paintings, a series painted on shells, and will feature the release of a signed print available at the opening and online the following week.

Alexis Trice is a BIPOC artist and native New Yorker. Her paintings navigate the inner workings of the natural world and seek to capture the unseen moments unfolding infinitely in the deep, in the dark, and in the silence. She conveys these scenes with the realism of observed and documented natural science alongside the conjurings of her own mind. By immersing herself in the  beauty, brutality and complexity of animal life and its environments, Trice has discovered an untapped emotional undercurrent hiding just below the surface. Her new series is about energy, both emotional and molecular, and its transference and impact as it ripples outward. Water acts as a source of our own universal emotions and traumas: joy, fear, ecstasy, anguish and all the tears we at times try to keep hidden away.

"The salt from the sea and the salt in our bodies; the water in our atmosphere, our cells, our veins; the endless, crucial circuit of evaporation and condensation. The cycle of a pearl in an oyster, a mussel, like a hardened memory. Past lives. Open wounds, hauntings, submerged recollections. This energy releases and ultimately recycles in a continuous, exquisite and painfully beautiful pattern." - Alexis Trice
