Rand Babcock - “Gilded Earth”
new sculptures
April 8th - 29th 2023
Opening night reception April 8th 6-9pm ~ Artist In Attendance - all are welcome to attend
Roq La Rue is pleased to present Seattle based sculptor Rand Babcock for his debut solo show at the gallery. We have been fans of Rand and his work for years and are thrilled to be able to welcome him to the gallery. Rand’s enigmatic and numinous sculptures combine crystal, metal, gems, and wood to create abstract pieces that look like they sprang from deep beneath the earth, as well as looking like otherworldly religious altar pieces.
"My art is inspired by the mystique of religious, ceremonial and cultural relics, and explores hidden symbols and age-old traditions. I use materials such as wood, plaster, gemstones, mineral specimens and gilding to create sculptures that are meant to evoke awe and reverence. My work delves into themes of ritual, social inequality and climate change, translating these abstract ideas into tangible forms that invite contemplation. I work slowly, allowing each piece to evolve organically into a final form that blurs the lines between natural and sculpted elements. I aim to create pieces that are imbued with a sense of otherworldliness and intrigue, paying homage to the past while inviting the viewer to contemplate the present and future." - Rand Babcock
