Laurie Lee Brom “On The Rocks”
new paintings
November 12th - December 5th 2020
Open To The Public Fridays and Saturdays 12-4pm
Roq La Rue is pleased to present a new show of works by Laurie Lee Brom.
This series, "On The Rocks" features a series of models wearing bright psychedelic party frocks while trapped inside, looking out frosty rain streaked windows. Obviously this can be seen as a commentary about the frustration, ennui, and sadness over being locked down, isolated, and quarantined from friends, family, and just interacting with other people on a day to day basis due to Covid 19 restrictions. However the series was actually started before Corovirus showed up and was initially an aesthetic reaction to the wild joy found in 60's and 70's party clothes. The image of the lone protagonist looking through a blurry, rainy window was first explored in her 2019 show at the gallery and continues here as both a subconscious exploration of the blocks women face in society as well as featuring Laurie Lee Brom's technical painting prowess, and has since evolved into incorporating some of the stronger themes we all feel of what will undoubtedly be the legendary year 2020.
Sadly we will not have a physical opening night party for the show because of Covid restrictions. The show will be available online as well as in person visits during our opening hours. We are open to the public Fridays and Saturday 12 - 4pm
