We are pleased to present Spanish painter Carles Gomila’s first solo show in 15 years in the US. A successful painter in Europe (and founder of the famous Quarantine series of artist retreats in Menorca), Carles will present “Strange Heaven” at the gallery, an exhibition of new works that are a sublime blend of mythic symbolism with a little dash of the lurid mid century pulp illustration. Dreamy yet provocative, Carles work features the feminine in her many aspects- the brave and noble warrior, the enigma, the femme fatale, and the beautiful monster.
Painted softly in a lush, saturated palette, Carles work retains the air of the nocturnal, hypnotic and hazy, with the subjects considering the viewer as much as the viewer is considering them. Here, beauty slays the beast.
